It is with great sadness that I have awoken to the news of Levon Helm’s death. Levon Helm was one of the greatest and most influential drummers of all time. I have been a fan since childhood and it is childish naivety that one never expects their heroes to die. Levon is a totem of Rock and Roll history.

Levon’s legacy will survive through his art, as a musician, actor and author. Recordings with The Band, Bob Dylan and Levon’s solo work are marked examples of not only some of the greatest beats ever put to tape, but also highlight Levon as a multi-instrumentalist and as having one of the greatest voices in Rock history.

Levon states in his book ‘This Wheel’s on Fire,’ that “career” was never more important than “music.” Testament of an attitude that today is in short supply.
